How to Convert Hourly to Annual Salary

The standard formula assumes a 40-hour workweek for 52 weeks a year — 2,080 working hours annually:

Annual salary = Hourly rate × 40 hours × 52 weeks

So a $25/hour job works out to $52,000/year before taxes. Use the calculator above to adjust for part-time schedules or non-standard hours per week.

All Pay Period Formulas

  • Weekly: Hourly rate × hours per week
  • Biweekly (every 2 weeks): Hourly rate × hours per week × 2
  • Semi-monthly (24× per year): Annual salary ÷ 24
  • Monthly: Annual salary ÷ 12

Biweekly (26 pay periods/year) and semi-monthly (24 pay periods/year) are not the same thing. With biweekly payroll, you receive 3 paychecks in two months of the year. The per-paycheck amount is slightly smaller, but the annual total is identical.

Common Hourly-to-Annual Conversions (40 hr/week)

Here are the most-searched hourly rates and their full-time annual equivalents at 2,080 hours:

  • $15/hour → $31,200/year ($1,200 biweekly gross)
  • $18/hour → $37,440/year ($1,440 biweekly gross)

Paid Time Off and the 2,080-Hour Assumption

The 2,080-hour standard assumes you are paid for all 52 weeks including vacation and holidays. If you have unpaid time off, subtract those hours. For example, two weeks unpaid reduces your working hours to 2,000 and your $25/hour earnings to $50,000 — not $52,000.

Contract workers and freelancers should also account for weeks without work and self-employment taxes (which replace the employer's 7.65% FICA contribution).

Converting a Salary Offer to Hourly

If you want to go the other direction — turn an annual salary into an hourly rate — divide by 2,080. A $65,000 salary equals about $31.25/hour. Use our salary to hourly calculator to do this instantly. This is useful when comparing a salaried job offer against an hourly position.
