What's Your Real Hourly Rate?
The standard conversion divides annual salary by 2,080 hours (40 hours/week × 52 weeks). A $60,000 salary = $28.85/hour. Simple math — but it misses something important.
If you actually work 50 hours per week, your real hourly rate is $60,000 ÷ 2,600 = $23.08/hour. That's a meaningful difference when comparing a salaried offer to an hourly one.
Why This Matters
Salaried exempt employees don't receive overtime pay regardless of hours worked. If you're evaluating a salaried vs. hourly job, always calculate the effective hourly rate using the actual hours you expect to work — not the nominal 40.
